Present Empyrean

Yes, I'm still on track for NaNoWriMo.  I'm at 31,000 words and doing fine.. or at least, I will be after the weekend.

The majority of my easy work is changing the book from present to past tense.

It's only when I come to the re-writes (the middle/end) that I get stuck.  I'm slowly, but steadily making my progress through though.  Very, very slowly.

Excerpt?  How about it.  :)
Empyrean Chapt.9, "King Emerson Palenstine"
The King is an amazing public speaker.  His passion, his movements and his use of language create a world where he is right, and no one else can say a word.  He explains his history; the first King of Empyrean almost 100 years ago, the fight between him and the "imposter" named Charles Pascal, a man who nearly took control of our country and would have brought it to ruin.  The King explains his plans to let the wealth of Empyrean flow out to the other countries, and take away all the opposers - "insignificant, weak people with a low tolerance for magic - they will not survive in our world!"  But eliminating the weak, a stronger community will be created.  By eliminating the opposers, a stronger community will be created.

By eliminating my sister, a stronger Empyrean will be created.

No, I think, this is not the right way to share one countries wealth to a world.  Besides, what wealth did we have?  Empyrean is a tiny country, long fought over by countless countries.  We have no water access, barely any mountains, and our once virtuous fields are scattered between dead battlefields and sprawling cities.  We do not manufacture exports, and many imports have to specifically shipped from other countries - if they can get through the borders.  The money Empyrean has is old, from days when we cared about our economy.  Our currency is no longer used in the rest of the world, our economy has crashed; it seems like wall has grown between us and the rest of the world, and because of that, the rest of the world has forgotten about us.

"They will never forget about us!  Empyrean is perfection, Empyrean is just, Empyrean is Emerson Palenstine's!"  The King shouts.  Behind him, the wall is lit up with a map of the world.  As he speaks, countries change colours and borders shift.

"We have already occupied Tranua.  Their forests and mines are being used to create the weapons we need to defeat our powerful opposers in Wat.  Soon, we will have the vast lakes and rivers that Wat is known for, and access to their lake."  The wall shows arrows as Empyrean progresses outwards from our small space in the middle of the continent to the oceans, then up to the northern powers.

"The northern powers will not be able to withstand our power, as we not posses the Yolan navy and Pillah tar sands.  In just a few short years, the problems on our planet will cease to exist!  The once troublesome, lesser low-powder citizens will be abolished and sent overseas, to places like Auasanna where they cannot harm us.  The world economy will be our ecomony once again, and all our citizens will flourish in the riches of the world!  Empyrites will be the leaders of the world, in positions of power all over our lands, and you, students of my great Institute, are the start of that.  Already, you have been placed in a position of power, preparing for your futures of commanders, sargents and congressmen.  You are almost there!"  The King beams at the crowd, radiating energy and power.  It is difficult not to get sucked into his words and believe his viewpoint.

But that is all it is.  A viewpoint, and nothing more.
